I am a very passionate teacher who believes in encouraging children young so they grow to be strong educated adults. I am the product of great teachers taking interest, and it is my dream to give that back.
My teaching style is heavily influenced by theatre training but extends to the expression of text. I use different theatre techniques to address how to include our bodies and emotions in the words we say and mean. My students learn it isn’t only your mouth that speaks for you, but your whole being, whole presence. I encourage them to find the expression that lies beneath not only on top by using voice and movement exercises. We spend time in the world of play and investigation to inform what we have written or performed.
The power of the individual and how they relate to the group is also very important in my teaching. I use group activities to bring to light how the individual reacts to the world around them. Reacts to their inner stimuli. Through this they can better understand their relationship with the world around them and even to their work. The group helps each other help themselves.
Some past workshops have covered:
The Power of Presence: A performance workshop used to enhance awareness around what it means to be present in front of an audience.
Introduction to Breath and Voice: Using Linklater and Lessac techniques this workshop is a basic application of breath to voice, and voice to text.
Physical Text Analysis: Different exercises lead the students through a physical understanding of their own work and the work of others.
Most recent full curriculum’s include:
Spitting Sick like Shakespeare: A course where Shakespeare’s use of literary devices is explored and its influences are used throughout the students own poetry.
Livin’ Good, Feelin’ Great: This course is a physical exploration of our self body and experiences and how we contribute to the Green Movement.
